Psalm 8

“O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, and all who oppose You.

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers – the moon and the stars you set in place – what are mere mortals that You should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made then only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.

You gave them charge of everything You made, putting all things under their authority – the flocks and the herds and all the world animals, the birds that fly, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents.

“Oh Lord, our Lord your majestic name fills the earth!”

Scripture on Caring

“Even when you are chased by those who seek to kill you, your life is safe in the care of the Lord your God, secure in His treasure pouch! But the lives of your enemies will disappear like stones shot from a sling!” (1 Samuel 25:29, NLT)

“For the strength of the wicked will be shattered, but the Lord takes care of the godly. Day by day the Lord takes care of the innocent, and they will receive an inheritance that lasts forever.” (Psalm 37:17-18, NLT)

Psalm Chapter 6 (A Song of David)

“O Lord, don’t rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage.
Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak.
Heal me Lord, for my bones are in agony, I am sick at heart.
How long, O Lord, until you restore me?

Return, O Lord, and rescue me. Save me because of your unfailing love.
For the dead do not remember you. Who can praise. you from the grave?

I am worn out from sobbing. All night I flood my bed with weeping, drenched it with my tears. My vision is blurred by grief; my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies.

Go away, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping. The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord will answer my prayer . May all my enemies be disgraced and terrified. May they suddenly turn back in shame.”
(Psalm 6)

Scripture on Belonging

“And you are included among those Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ. I am writing to all of you in Rome who are loved by God and are called to be His own holy people.” (Romans 1:6-7, NLT)

“And we can be sure that we know Him if we obey His commandments. If some one claims, ‘I know God,’ but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.” (1 John 2:3-4, NLT)

Scripture own Safety and Security

“If you make the Lord your refuge, it you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go.” (Psalm 91:9-11, NLT)

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confidence and hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.” (Romans 5:3-5, NLT)

Psalm Chapter 1

“O, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners have no place among the godly. For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.”

The Lord Challenges Job, Part III

EXCERPTS FROM JOB 38

“Does the rain have a father? Who gives birth to the dew? Who is the mother of the ice? Who gives birth to the most from the heavens? For the water turns to ice as hard as rock, and the surface of the water freezes.

Can you direct the movement of the stars – binding the cluster of the Pleiades or loosening the cords of Orion? Can you direct the sequence of the seasons or guide the Bear with her cubs across the heavens? Do you know the laws of the universe? Can you use them to regulate the earth?

Can you shout to the clouds and make it rain? Can you make lightning appear and cause it to strike as you direct? Who give intuition to the heart and instinct to the mind? Who is wise enough to count all the clouds? Who can tilt the water jars of heaven when the parched ground is dry and the soil as hardened as rocks?

Can you stalk prey for lioness and satisfy the young lions’ appetites as they lie in their dens or couch in a thicket? Who provides food of ravens when their young cry out to God and wander about in hunger?” (Job 38:28-41, NLT)

The Lord Challenges Job, Part II

Excerpts from Job Chapter 38

“Have you ever commanded the morning to appear and caused the dawn to rise in the east? Have you made daylight spread to the ends of the earth, to bring an end to the night’s wickedness? As the light approaches, the earth takes shape like clay pressed beneath a seal; it is robed in brilliant colors. The light disturbs the wicked and stops the arm that is raised in violence.

Have you explored the springs from which the seas come? Have you explored their depths? Have you seen the gates of utter gloom? Do you realize the extent of the earth? Tell me about it if you know!

Where does the light come from and where does the darkness go? Can you take each to its home? Do you know how to get there? But of course you know all this! For you were born before it was all created and you are very experienced!

Have you visited the storehouses of the snow or seen the storehouses of hail? (I have reserved the as weapons for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war). Where is the path to the source of light? Where is the home of the east wind?

Who created a channel for the torrents of rain? Who laid out the path for the lighting? Who made the rain fall on barren land, and in a desert where no one lives? Who sends rain to satisfy the parched ground and make the tender grass spring up?” (Job 38:12-27, NLT)
